OLSB Students Win Prestigious Radio Award

Talented students at a Stockton school have a lot to talk about after their innovative school radio station scooped two top awards!

OLSB Radio, which is the school radio station of Our Lady & St Bedes RC School on Bishopton Road, beat off competition from schools across the North East to win ‘Best School Radio Station’ at the recent Media Oscars event organised by Hexham and Newcastle Catholic Partnership South, and held at Hardwick Hall on Wednesday 21 September.

Not only that, but the team also won the award for ‘Best Podcast’.

John Smith, head teacher at Our Lady & St Bede’s said “This is a magnificent achievement. Our students and staff have worked hard to make OLSB Radio a success and this award is a celebration of their effort. It’s great to see our students embracing media and technology and these are exciting times in school.”

Sarah Crawshaw, director of Hexham and Newcastle Catholic Partnership South, said “The judges were extremely impressed with the entry from OLSB Radio. The students involved sound great on the radio and are confident and professional in their approach. Well done!”

Visitors to a recent open evening at the school were also entertained by OLSB Radio broadcasting live during the event, with many prospective students and parents taking part in quizzes and competitions.

OLSB Radio is broadcast from the schools own professional radio studio facilities via speakers around the school, and is also streamed live via the school website at www.olsb.stockton.sch.uk.

Students present live programmes on a Thursday evening between 4-5pm.

The return to school in September after a long hot summer of relaxation will hopefully be eased by the introduction of a brand new, state of the art reward system.  You will be rewarded for your good attendance, good punctuality, good behaviour and good commitment to school, by receiving iBEDES.

Reward prizes can be collected throughout the year and range from a chocolate chip cookie up to a 16GB iPAD 2 and lots more in between.  The more iBEDES you collect the bigger your reward.  There is a limited amount of each reward prize so when they’re gone, they’re gone!
But as the saying goes…..”You’ve got to be in it to win it!”  The key to success is excellent attendance.  iBEDES are awarded for attendance each day, but if you put in a full week this automatically gives you access to

receiving further iBEDES for punctuality and good behaviour.  Your teachers will also be awarding you iBEDES for excellent progress and effort in your lessons.
So what are you waiting for?  Set your mind to full commitment to school; start collecting your iBEDES and prepare to explore the wonders of the new iPAD 2.
