Welcome to the Our Lady & St Bede RC School website. If you are a parent, a student or just want to find out more about the school - you're in the right place!
Our Lady and St Bede is a voluntary aided Roman Catholic school in Stockton-on-Tees. We are always pleased to extend a warm welcome to visitors to the school.
Our Lady and St Bede RC School, through a partnership with Stockton Rugby club have won the Sport England Satellite club of the year award.
The satellite club, delivered by Stockton RFC has brought Rugby Union to the heart of the community in Stockton. Stockton Rugby Club expressed a desire to increase the number of junior teams playing at the club and saw the opportunity to deliver some outreach work targeting players in new communities in Stockton. Our Lady of St Bede RC School had not traditionally played rugby and Head of PE, Steve Thomas has been delighted with the link which has resulted in a number of pupils joining the club to play regularly at a competitive level.
OLSB Science teacher Amanda Bell has successfully swum across the English Channel in memory of one of her former students, Georgina Anderson.
After waiting since Saturday for the right tidal conditions in the Channel, Amanda's gruelling 21-mile swim from Dover to France got underway at 4.40am on Tuesday 5th August. She finally arrived at the beach west of Sangatte in France at approx 11.10pm, having completed the crossing in a time of 18 hours 23 minutes. Definitely a moment for celebration!
Amanda, who worked at Bydales School in Marske before joining OLSB in January, decided to undertake the cross-channel challenge after being inspired by the bravery of one of her former students, Georgina Anderson from Marske, who died in November 2013 after being diagnosed with stage four liver cancer.
"I'm dedicating my swim to the amazingly talented Georgina" said Amanda. "If I can show half the strength and courage that Georgina did then I will make it all the way to France."
Amanda is raising money for the charities which Georgina supported, Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research UK.
The cross-channel swim follows an event held in school in the last week of term, where OLSB students swam lengths of the school swimming pool in support of Amanda's fundraising. Over £600 was raised.
You can follow Amanda's progress on her Facebook page 'Amanda's English Channel Swim'.
